Embracing Sustainability: Our Commitment to a Greener Future!
Bright as a rental company utilizes sustainability as a core practice by the nature of our business – rent, reuse, recycle. Together with the events industry and vendor partners, Bright continues to invest our commitment to sustainability. From resources to recycling, we are excited to share how we embrace a greener future.
Recycling and Reuse
To ensure Bright works to maintain a 2:1 ratio of recycling to refuse, we utilize dedicated recycling bins and dumpsters in each of our facilities. The team members have worked diligently to reduce paper waste by implementing a digital filing system for various departments and paperless routing and packing processes.
Each of our warehouse departments implements recycling processes to improve material handling waste. As an example of one of these processes, our linen department offers two types of reusable bags for linen transport. Linens are delivered in blue drawstring bags for protection, and post event the linens are collected in the same bags to help reduce the chance of mildew and damage, further extending the life of the product. Grey drawstring bags are provided with each delivery, intended for clients to deposit the linen hangers. Bright collects the grey bags, and the undamaged hangers are used for future linen orders.
Warehouse Lighting and Electrical Savings
To reduce the energy use at our facilities, Bright utilizes LED lighting compared to the standard metal halide fixtures. As a 24/7 operational facility, our warehouse is equipped with multi-setting motion sensor lighting. If a light does not detect motion in 5 minutes, it automatically reduces its output by 90%. If no motion is detected in 60 minutes, the light shuts off completely until motion is detected again. To ensure the warehouse remains in an energy-saving status, there is no main switch to turn on all the lights, so the lights will only operate on an as-needed basis.
Water Usage and Savings
Bright is committed to being a responsible and environmentally conscious water user. To be able to control our water usage, Bright has created a unique standard of practices for our dishwashing and laundry facilities on-site.
To ensure each load of laundry is maximized, Bright has a single, centralized laundry facility that services the entire region. Regions included Arizona, Southern California, and Northern California.
Our energy-star dishwashers are designed to use less than 1 gallon of water per dish rack. Dishwashers and other equipment are serviced regularly to maintain these standards and are replaced when necessary.
The final rinse water used in our dishwashing process is purified by a process known as Reverse Osmosis (RO), allowing us to use fewer chemicals in the dishwashing process. RO purified water requires 2 gallons of tap water to create 1 gallon of purified RO water. The leftover gallon of water is referred to as reclaimed water, and it is still potable (drinkable). Instead of wasting a potable gallon of water down the drain, Bright recycles the potable water and uses it to fill our laundry washing machines.
The hot water for Bright’s dishwasher and laundry machines comes from tankless, natural gas water heaters. These heaters provide on-demand hot water, which eliminates the constant wasted resources when re-heating large quantities of stored water.
Bright’s kitchen equipment cleaning pit and dishwashers have grease and refuse extracted from our wastewater by a large, commercial-grade clarifier. This waste is collected by a reclaiming service and recycled or disposed of appropriately.
Transportation
Bright trucks have built-in scales to prevent overloading with product. By preventing overloading, Bright reduces the strain on the vehicles, reduces fuel consumption, lengthens the lifespan of the vehicles, and promotes safe driving conditions, which can be extremely dangerous for our team, other motorists, and pedestrians.
Our fleet consists of the latest technology in diesel-powered vehicles, reducing carbon emissions. Each of the trucks uses a diesel exhaust fluid (DET) system and state-of-the-art emissions, timed idling, GPS, and link systems. All vehicles undergo daily maintenance and preventative check-ups.
Bright’s fleet also has additional crew cab space to reduce the number of staff vehicles traveling throughout the day.
Bright promotes carpooling across the entire company by providing carpooling awards, bicycle racks, and centralized facilities for easy access.
Additional Team Member Resources
Water bottle filling stations are available in the Bright offices and warehouses where team members utilize reusable water flasks instead of single-use plastic bottles to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices. Our Field Operations utilizes large 10-gallon coolers to create water filling stations or large insulated, reusable water bottles when access to the warehouse is limited.
Lastly, Bright believes in reducing our carbon emissions, which is why we have shifted to sourcing our products closer to home and to reduce transportation-related environmental impacts, and encourages the use of technology and video conferencing to reduce unnecessary travel locally and across locations.
Final Thoughts…
Every day, Bright looks to inspire change and create a world we are proud to pass on to our children. We look to make the events industry a more sustainable environment and educate our partners in new eco-friendly practices.
